Comedy is the language of bridging experience, fear, and overcoming obstacles. It is the most useful tool known to the human spirit. Founder and President Susanna Spies began Comedy Playground, LLC on a stage created in her own living room, what she liked to call her “murphy stage.” A wooden plank a friend made for her, with curtains to surround it. While teaching Drama at Pilgrim school, she began developing activities around comedy, and noticed how much teens and pre-teens were drawn to expression through this art form. She became more and more compelled to create a place for teens to be themselves and get away from the obstacles that make life complicated, to know their opinions had such value, and to create a platform for their voices. So, the mission began to develop a curriculum to share through this platform, to tap into personal experiences, and build a program rehabilitating the human spirit through humor. Comedy brings confidence, enables, builds, achieves, and ultimately can constitute spiritual success. Headquartered in Los Angeles, Comedy Playground youth programs culminate into a class showcase at The Improv, in Hollywood. Additional programs include adult Finding Your Funny workshops, individual and group coaching services, writing consultations, and on site programs for adults, senior citizens, and corporations.

SSU, Senior Stand Up is an additional program welcoming seniors ages 55+ to share their story, and has successfully piloted this program out of the amazing Hollenbeck Palms in Los Angeles. SSU continues to reach retirement communities throughout Southern California to share in the fun and the funny, because laughter is ageless, and it’s never too early or late to begin!We each have our own story…. now it’s time to share it!
